Applications are now invited to apply for the Taiwan Foundation Democracy Fellowships 2021. Every year, the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy offers fellowships to scholars and practitioners for international students who wish to pursue research on Taiwan’s democracy and human rights.
Taiwan Foundation Democracy Fellows may reside in Taiwan for up to one year to conduct research topics of their own choice related to Taiwan’s democracy and human rights. There is no minimum length for fellowships, but please note that all Fellows are responsible for completing their projects within the time allotted to them.

Taiwan Foundation Democracy Fellowships Details
- Host Country: Taiwan
- Duration of Award: 6-12 months
- Eligibility: International Students
- Fellowship Coverage: NT$40,000 – NT$45,000 per month
- Deadline: 15th October 2020

Eligibility
Eligibility criteria for a Dissertation Fellowship:
- Must be enrolled in a full-time PhD program or equivalent in a field related to your proposed research topic
- Should have fulfilled all your PhD requirements by the appropriate date
- Devoted to undertaking research related to Taiwan’s democracy or human rights
- Citizen of Taiwan are not eligible
Eligibility criteria for a Postdoctoral Fellowship:
- Should have a PhD in a field that is relevant to your intended research
- You earned your PhD no more than 7 years ago.
- Your commitment to undertake research related to Taiwan’s democracy or human rights
- Citizen of Taiwan are not eligible
Eligibility criteria for a Democracy and Human Rights Service Fellowship:
- You are a practitioner dedicated to the promotion or building of democracy or human rights (Should have MA in a relevant field or two years of relevant work experience)
- Your commitment to undertake a project designed to promote democracy or human rights in Taiwan
- Citizen of Taiwan are not eligible
Eligibility criteria for an International Visiting Fellowship:
- You are a well-established scholar or specialist in the field of democracy or human rights.
- Your commitment to undertake research related to Taiwan’s democracy or human rights or engage in a democracy or human rights promotion project
- Citizen of Taiwan are not eligible
