Who Can Apply for a Work Visa in Finland?

Skilled Professionals

  • Individuals with specialized skills or qualifications in high-demand sectors such as technology, engineering, and healthcare can apply for a work visa in Finland. They must have a job offer from a Finnish employer that aligns with their expertise.

General Workers

  • Those with a job offer in various industries, not necessarily requiring specialized skills, are eligible for a General Work Visa. This visa is available to a broad range of professions and supports diverse job roles across Finland.

Highly Skilled Non-EU Nationals

  • Highly skilled professionals from outside the EU can apply for the EU Blue Card, provided they have a higher education degree and a job offer with a competitive salary in Finland. This visa offers pathways to long-term residency and work opportunities within the EU.

Eligibility Criteria for a Finland Work Visa 2025:

  • Valid Work Contract: You must have a valid work contract from a Finnish employer that specifies your role and employment terms.
  • Educational Requirements: For most work visas, a university degree is required, except for seasonal work. You must also work professionally in your field.
  • Criminal Record and Safety: You must be clear of any criminal charges and not pose a danger to Finland. Adherence to Finnish laws is mandatory.
  • Schengen Area Travel: You must not be subject to any travel bans within the Schengen Area.
  • Specialist Visa: For a Specialist Visa, you must qualify as a highly-skilled worker and have a higher-than-average salary with high competence in your field.
  • Welfare and Healthcare: For roles in welfare and healthcare, you must be authorized to practice your profession in Finland.
  • Entrepreneur Visa: For an Entrepreneur Visa, you must be self-employed, either as a private entrepreneur, partner in a general or limited partnership, member of a cooperative with unlimited liability, or entrepreneur in a limited liability company.
  • Start-Up Visa: You must have a viable start-up plan and financial support for a Start-Up Visa.
  • Researcher Visa: For a Researcher Visa, you need a valid certificate proving your researcher status and, for scientific research, an invitation to work on a scientific project.
  • Religious Work: For religious work, your employer must be a registered association in Finland.
  • Au Pair Visa: For an Au Pair Visa, you must be between 17 and 30 years old.

Finland work visa requirements:

  • Valid passport, which you must present when submitting your residence permit application.
  • Passport photo that meets the guidelines issued by the police, or a photograph retrieval code from a photo shop (OLEL PK).
  • Color copies of the passport page with personal data and all pages with notes.
  • Document showing that you are legally staying in the country where you submit the application.
  • Form MP_1 is required if you are already in Finland and applying for your first residence permit.

How to Apply for a Finland Work Visa 2025?

  • Obtain a Job Offer: Secure a valid job offer from a Finnish employer. Ensure the job details meet visa requirements.
  • Prepare Required Documents: Gather necessary documents, including a valid passport, passport photo, color copies of passport pages, proof of legal stay in the application country, and any specific forms such as Form MP_1 if applying from within Finland.
  • Complete the Application: Fill out the work visa application form. This can be done online via the Enter Finland portal or at a Finnish embassy/consulate, depending on your location.
  • Submit the Application: Submit your completed application and required documents either online through the Enter Finland portal or in person at the nearest Finnish embassy or consulate.
  • Attend an Interview (if required): You may be asked to attend an interview as part of the application process.
  • Wait for Processing: The processing time can vary, so check the estimated duration and plan accordingly. Monitor your application status online if applicable.
  • Receive Your Visa: Once approved, you will receive your Finland Work Visa, allowing you to travel to Finland and begin employment.
